Discovering Relic’s: A Mini-Blog Series


Everstone was a project I never expected to bring to life when I began working on it. It was a creative outlet I chose to spend my free time on to help me get through lockdown. My process for design at the time was to tinker with existing game mechanisms I liked in other games but put my own twist on them. The process revolved around creating opportunities for players to feel clever and satisfied during gameplay. When the design became something I felt inspired to pursue publishing, I thought there was a chance I’d only have the opportunity to publish one game. With this thought in mind, I approached it similarly to a company I am continuously inspired by. This company is Pixar.

The approach I am referring to is something I want to call “the easter egg approach.” Every movie Pixar has released is riddled with hidden nods to other movies and little details tied to all the personnel working on the project. After watching a new Pixar movie, one of my favorite things is to go to YouTube and watch all the videos pointing out all the Easter Eggs the team included in the film. 

When it came time to create the Relics found in Everstone, I wanted to evoke the same feeling of having a hidden detail or meaning in each one. This series will go through all 80 relics found in Everstone and share the story behind each one.
